Chance Creger Commits to MSOE NCAA Div III

Boulder Hockey Club would like to Congratulate Chance Creger on his recent commitment to play NCAA Div III hockey at Milwaukee School of Engineering.

 “It is a great honor to be able to play at MSOE.” Chance Creger says. “I'm very excited about this coming season and would like to thank all those who have helped me achieve this goal. I would like to especially thank past coaches Matt Huckins, Brent Cullaton and Marty Quarters.”

 Chance started playing hockey at the YMCA in Lafayette from Mites until his first year of Bantam before finding a home at the Boulder Valley Hockey Assoc. Chance has been a long time Bison playing Bantam A, Midget Minor AA and for the Jr Bison over the last 7 years. In 2010 he helped the Bison U16 AA Team win Regional Silver Sticks, a State Championship, and a trip to Nationals.

"Chance is one of those resilient players that you use as an example in your locker room.” states former Bison Hockey Director Matt Huckins. "He played hurt, had to recover from major surgeries, and was up and down during his junior career. The key is he stayed mentally tough and was able to achieve his goals, Congrats Chance."

Chance also played for the Peak to Peak CSHAA high school hockey team as a freshman and sophomore where he was alternate captain as a sophomore. From there he left to play junior hockey for the Corpus Christi Icerays in the North American Hockey League (NAHL); being the youngest player on his team that season. He also played for the Minot Minotauros in the NAHL. Chance finished his junior hockey career playing with the Central Wisconsin Saints in the Minnesota Junior Hockey League (MNJHL) for coach Marty Quarters.

"Although Chance joined our team late in the season he was a welcomed addition from the first practice.” stated Saints’ Head Coach Marty Quarters. “This is a testament to his leadership, ability, and the experience he has gained playing Jr A hockey the previous seasons. As good as Chance was on the ice, his off ice also set a standard of strong character and hard work in the local community. The Saints are proud of Chance committing to MSOE and are confident that he will represent them on the ice and on campus. He is what our next generation should all try to emulate"

Playing in 111 games during his Junior A hockey career, Chance tallied 31 PTS from 12 G and 19 A with 261 PIM.

Chance Creger and the Minotauros: Dream Catchers' Softball Game

Yesterday I was presented with a great opportunity to play some softball with the Dream Catchers. The Dream Catchers are a group of kids in Minot with special needs, the group meets and plays softball in the spring and summer every year. Each player was able to pair up with one of the kids and help them field, bat and run the bases. I was paired up with an 8th Grader named Haley and a Preschooler named Nole. It was an incredible experience to help these kids out and something that I'll never forget.

"On defense, the Minotauros return Scott Dornbrock and Chance Creger. They are a part of what Murray believes will be the cornerstone of the team. “I think we are going to be real solid defensively,” said Murray. “Not only do we have two experienced defensemen like Scott (Dornbrock) and Chance (Creger) back there, but we brought in some players that are older and have some junior experience to help us out.”"

After returning to Minot two weeks early to train, we hit the ice last Friday to begin training camp. We have a skilled team this year and camp has been extremely high paced. The exhibition season starts this Friday with a home and away series against Bismarck. There has been a lot of focus on systems and conditioning to get everyone in shape and on the same page.  My knee has held up great so far and my puck movement has definitely improved since last season. I am looking forward to this season and finishing up my junior career strong. The season will start against Corpus Christi on the 18th.

Chance Creger and Kenny McCudden Elite AAA Camp

 This last week I had the pleasure of coaching in Kenny McCudden's Elite AAA Camp. The camp is held every year in Chicago, however this year it was a joint camp in Boulder. The kids from Chicago flew down to Colorado for the week and were able to billet with Bison Families. It was a great experience and I enjoyed it thoroughly. From watching all the coaches present at the camp I gained a great deal of knowledge about the game and coaching in general. The talent level of the Coaching Staff made it an amazing camp to attend as both players and myself. My youngest brother, Cole was also able to attend the camp. There is not many times that you can place someone into a week-long camp and see as much improvement as what I saw in Cole this week. I have very high hopes in Cole  as he will be playing U13 AAA for the Rocky Mountain Roughriders this season. As for myself, my knee is recovering very well. I am almost 5 months post-op now and my strength is almost back to 100%. There is the occasional morning where I wake up with a pretty stiff leg but, that is nothing a few minutes dedicated to stretching won't fix. I will be leaving for Minot 10 days before camp in order to train and get settled in. I will also be skating at the Jr. Bison Main Camp this weekend to try to get up to speed.
